Her entry, Grand Fireworks was honored with the Miller Johnson Purchase Award.  Grand Fireworks will be on display at the Muse Art Gallery in GR from June 1-30, then at the Lowell Arts Gallery for A Festival Award Winners show.

Photo Walk Scavenger Hunt (Ages 7-14 yrs) Summer - 2021 Description:

Join award-winning photographer Cari Povenz for a Photo Walk Scavenger Hunt to learn tips for framing, focus, light and creativity.

This class will meet outdoors at Wedgwood Park Pavilion, spending time walking outside to find objects as subjects for photos and practice photography techniques. Cari will review participants' photos, and highlight what makes great photographs. Bring a cell phone or digital camera.

The Art & Joy of Nature Photography

Learn how immersing yourself in the photography process not only helps create more meaningful photographic images it also opens us to receive unexpected gifts in nature. Explore ways to improve photos with a quiet attentiveness, seeing the light, and creative thinking, which brings renewal and joy. Review photography techniques to help create your own artistic expression, allowing the camera to be an extension of yourself.

Following the program the March monthly competition images and edit challenge images will be shown.

NOTE: Prior to the pandemic moving club meetings online, we asked guests for a $5 donation to attend our meetings. Though we do not require this for you to attend our Zoom meetings, if you are not a club member GRCC would appreciate any donation you might be willing to make to help us cover our increased programming expenses. Grand Rapids Virtual Festival of the Arts 2020 Grand Rapids Regional Festival of the Arts 2020 will be a unique event this year- a virtual arts festival! Cari's photo "Aspen Snow," was selected to be included in the show, along with Joe's photo "Joshua Tree," The streaming event will take place from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm on Friday June 5, and will be repeated again on Saturday June 6, on Photos will also be on site from that weekend until August 30.

Three Classes Grandville Community Ed-2020 Beginning in January 2020, Cari will be teaching 3 classes for Grandville Community Ed, two for adults: "Tips, Tools and the Art of Nature Photography" and "Basic Digital Photography." Festival of the Arts Grand Rapids 50 Year Celebration-June 7, 8, and 9 Joe and Cari have 6 photos which were selected for the Grand Rapids Festival 2019 Regional Arts Competition/Juried show. Cari's selection, Courageous, received two awards; the Bronze Sculpture Photography Juror Award and the Kent County Purchase Award. Courageous is included in the top 11 awards given at Festival of the Arts 2019. Her image will be shown on a big screen, along with the other top 11, at the opening ceremonies on June 7. 


Their photography will be on display at Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University from June 1 until June 22 and the Grand Rapids African American Museum & Archives.
